Oak Ridge Boys

Performance Marks The Oak Ridge Boys' 45th Consecutive Appearance at The Kentucky State Fair

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Kentucky State Fair announces that legendary country music quartet, The Oak Ridge Boys will perform the national anthem on Saturday, August 29th, at The World’s Championship Horse Show. The performance will mark the group’s 45th consecutive appearance at the Kentucky State Fair, a record unmatched by any other touring act.

The Oak Ridge Boys were originally scheduled to perform on the Texas Roadhouse Concert Series stage. However, the modification of the 2020 Kentucky State Fair as a participant only show necessitated the cancellation of the full performance. However, The Oak Ridge Boys were determined to find a way to keep their record of consecutive performances going.

Extraordinary cooperation between The Kentucky State Fair, The World’s Championship Horse Show, and The Oak Ridge Boys are keeping this remarkable record intact. Continued support from Texas Roadhouse includes catering for the band provided by the Louisville-based company.

Duane Allen, lead singer of The Oak Ridge Boys says, “The Kentucky State Fair is always circled on our calendar. It’s an honor to perform the national anthem at The World’s Championship Horse Show this year. We can’t wait for this very special opportunity.”

Attendance at The World’s Championship Horse Show will be limited to participants only. Pay-Per-View live coverage event is available here.

The 2020 Kentucky State Fair is Aug. 20-30 at the Kentucky Exposition Center. For more information, visit www.kystatefair.org or find the Fair on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or its blog.

You're the Reason Celebration

David Frizzell Celebrates 40th Anniversary Of "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma"

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - CMA and ACM award winning and Grammy nominated hit-maker, David Frizzell celebrates the 40th anniversary of “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma,” a duet with Shelly West which was released in 1980 and reached number one in 1981. Although turned down by countless labels, it was featured in Clint Eastwood’s film “Any Which Way You Can,” providing the boost needed to be heard. Once released, it shot to number one and secured a contract for the duo with Warner Brother Records. The duet was even ranked in CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets in country music, reaching number six.

“Thanks to my older brother Lefty for starting my musical journey and thanks to my younger brother Allen for introducing me to Shelly West and thanks to Shelly for using her amazing talents in singing “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma.” And a special thanks to Clint Eastwood for putting our song in his movie “Any Which Way You Can”... which, 40 years later my musical journey continues” says David Frizzell.

David Frizzell is one of the greatest voices in country music with a haunting resemblance to his older brother, the ultimate stylist, Country Music Hall of Fame member Lefty Frizzell. Both share that raw, forlorn quality that is essential to the interpretation of traditional country themes. Even during the duet years with Shelly West, David Frizzell continued his solo career as well with “I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home.” As producer of the popular Frizzell & Friends series of projects, David brings together some of the top performers in the business for both live and recorded projects such as Crystal Gayle, T. Graham Brown, Johnny Lee, Lacy J. Dalton and more.

Office of Commissioner Brandon Presley

Presley Warns Consumers of Cell Phone SIM Card Scam, Urges Consumers to Take Action to Protect Accounts

Jackson, Mississippi (August 19, 2020) – Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley is warning consumers about a recent rise in cell phone scams involving the swapping of SIM cards and theft of funds through cash apps. Presley is urging the consumer to take action to protect their accounts.

The scam activity begins when a criminal contacts a consumer’s cellular provider posing as the accountholder. After doing so, they convince the carrier to deactivate the consumer’s current SIM card and activate a new SIM card. The criminal then activates the new SIM card to block the actual consumer from accessing their own accounts. By doing so, scam artists are then able to access a consumer’s cash apps like Venmo and PayPal to steal money.

Commissioner Presley advises consumers to make sure they have a PIN code or password set for their account with their cell phone carrier. This adds a layer of security to prevent unauthorized account changes.

Commissioner Presley also suggests consumers take a minute to review passwords and consider ways to increase security on accounts, including multifactor authentication. Multifactor authentication allows a phone’s user to set up certain apps to require two positive confirmations of the user. An example is a PIN number and a password, or a password and a text message confirmation.

“This is one of the latest ways criminals are trying to prey on hard working Mississippians,” said Commissioner Presley. “Always be careful with your personal information. Don’t reply to calls, emails, or texts that are asking for your personal details and be careful what you share online.”

If you suspect that you have been the victim of this scam, please contact Commissioner Presley’s office at 1-800-637-7722 to speak with a fraud investigator or contact local law enforcement.
