The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and California Country
In the 1960’s, the working-class city of Bakersfield, California, gave birth to an exciting, raw-edged style of country music. The music, which soon became known as the Bakersfield Sound, consisted of piercing electric guitars, an unsweetened barroom feel, and honest, down-to-earth songs. This exhibit explores the life and career of the two most iconic Bakersfield artists; Buck Owens, and Merle Haggard as well as the impact their music has had on country music today. Learn More
